Ongoing Benefits of SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination and Booster Vaccination 5 Years Following the Start of the COVID-19 Pandemic
Individuals with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs) are at increased risk of severe complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection, in part due to the use of immunosuppressive medications as well as potential dysregulated immunity.1-4 Vaccine recommendations (eg, pneumococcal, influenza, shingles, SARS-CoV-2) for individuals with SARDs and other comorbidities that place people at higher risk of severe infection differ from those of the general population without...
Nanofluidic delivery implant sustains localization and maximizes efficacy of intratumoral immunotherapy
Immunotherapy has transformed the field of oncology with the potential for treating cancers by harnessing the immune defense mechanism. Although promising, immunotherapy has shown variable responses across different cancers, in part due to delivery failure rather than drug ineffectiveness [1]. Ultimately, the efficacy of immunotherapy hinges on modulating the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) to be responsive to treatment [2], [3].
Abstract No. 4 ▪ FEATURED ABSTRACT Image-Guided Intratumoral Cancer Vaccine to Treat Metastatic Immunotherapy Resistant Cancer with and without Cryoablation
Intratumoral immunoadjuvant injections using image-guidance are an area of significant clinical interest, but current therapies suffer because they need frequent injections and are unable to confirm target delivery. Developing controlled release and imageable formulations of injectable immunoadjuvants will greatly improve the clinical translation of these therapies for intratumoral immunotherapy.
Abstract No. 552 Increasing Intra-Lesional pH with the Use of Bicarbonate along with Doxorubicin in Trans-Arterial Chemoembolization of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Phase 1 Study
Doxorubicin is a weakly basic agent and undergoes protonation below a pH of 7. This may dramatically decrease the potency of doxorubicin in an acidic micro-environment which typically occurs within hepatocellular carcinomas during the process of transarterial embolization. We hypothesize that the efficacy of TACE can be improved by improving the potency of Doxorubicin when used in combination with sodium bicarbonate by creating an alkaline environment.
Abstract No. 57 Local Biliary Injection of Cisplatin for Chemotherapy Delivery in Patients with Cholangiocarcinoma
Extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is an aggressive cancer whose incidence is rising worldwide. Mortality for patients with this aggressive disease is from locoregional obstruction of the biliary tree, leading to obstructive jaundice, and preventing patients from tolerating systemic chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or anesthesia’s post-surgical recovery. Percutaneously placed or endoscopically placed biliary stents open the area for biliary drainage, but currently deliver no therapeutic treatments.
Abstract No. 529 Development of a Resident-Run IR Device Development Lab
Device development has the potential to directly impact patient care and has been a strong motivation for physicians to pursue interventional radiology (IR). However, device development can be an opaque process with large capital costs, lack of access to physical resources, and timing challenges. Herein, we share our experience in the development of a resident-led device development group in association with several specialties, an institutional incubator, and an IR simulation program.
Abstract No. 21 Development of 3D-Printed Individualized Vascular Phantoms for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Enabled Interventional Device Testing
Abstract No. 20 Right- versus Left-Sided Chest Ports in Oncologic Patients: Are There Any Differences in Complication Rates after Propensity Score Matching?
Abstract No. 342 Management of hemoptysis with bronchial artery embolization: benign versus malignant disease
Abstract No. 343 Retrospective analysis of the outcome of angiographic embolization for bleeding peptic ulcers
Abstract No. 20 Assessment of pre-emptive multimodal analgesia to reduce post-procedural opioid requirements in patients undergoing liver microwave ablation
Microwave ablation (MWA) of liver tumors is associated with post-ablation pain in up to 30% of patients. In the surgery and anesthesia literature, protocols of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) have been studied and applied clinically. Central to the ERAS protocols is multimodal pre-emptive analgesia, with the goal of decreasing opioid consumption and post-operative pain, while increasing patient safety and satisfaction.
Abstract No. 495 Comparative analysis of non-hydrodissection techniques for percutaneous computed tomography-guided thermal ablation of liver neoplasms - Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology
To view the full text, please login as a subscribed user or purchase a subscription. Click here to view the full text on ScienceDirect. Percutaneous thermal ablation of hepatic neoplasms often requires utilization of thermal insulation techniques to minimize potential damage to structures adjacent to the target lesion, most commonly saline hydrodissection. However, hydrodissection is often limited by its ability to quickly move away from the peri-ablation zone.
Abstract No. 701 Assessment of the thermal properties of absorbable gelatin powder for potential use as a tissue separator during microwave ablation procedures
To view the full text, please login as a subscribed user or purchase a subscription. Click here to view the full text on ScienceDirect. To explore thermal properties of reconstituted gelatin powder as a space occupying material for physiological separation of tissues to prevent thermal injury to adjacent organs during microwave ablation.
