4. Overview of Stem Cell Scaffolding The stem cell scaffold is a lab-created, three-dimensional structure designed to imitate and modulate many of the key characteristics of the naturally occurring ECM () [13,14]. The scaffold is meant to provide an environment for stem cell differentiation, attachment, and growth [15]. There are several broad categories of scaffolds including hydrogels, natural polymers, synthetic polymers, and composites [14,16].
