A High Cholesterol Diet During Late Pregnancy Impairs Long-Term Maternal Vascular Function in Mice

Highlights Dyslipidemia in pregnancy (created with a mouse model of a high cholesterol diet in late pregnancy) leads to increased circulating total cholesterol and impaired vascular function 3 months postpartum. The effects of the high cholesterol diet were specific to pregnancy and did not occur in nulliparous mice. A high cholesterol diet-insult which induces vascular dysfunction at the end of pregnancy is sufficient to impair long-term vascular health, despite return to a control diet.
