It's affecting their minds, too. Dr. Vi Nguyen, a Kaiser Permanente pediatrician and organizer of the county's Heat and Human Health Summit with UCSD Health and San Diego Foundation, said hospitals are seeing more patients with psychiatric conditions as the heat wave drags on.

SAN DIEGO — A pod of 13 Eastern Tropical Pacific killer whales, including a newly spotted calf, was seen breaching and spy-hopping off the San Diego coastline Sunday evening, in what researchers call a rare sighting for this time of year.
