Phosphorylated lantibiotics-producing commensals integrate into the human oral microbiome to suppress pathogens and promote microbiome homeostasis
Abstract Commensal bacteria produce antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) to maintain microbiome homeostasis, yet the traits underlying this resilience and their translation into biotherapeutics remain understudied. Phosphorylated lantibiotics (pLANs) are a recently identified class of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs), with dual antimicrobial and pro-immune activities.

Genetic Analysis of Mutacin B-Ny266, a Lantibiotic Active against Caries Pathogens
Research Article Delphine Dufour, Abdelahhad Barbour, Yuki Chan, Marcus Cheng, Taimoor Rahman, Matthew Thorburn, Cameron Stewart, Yoav Finer, Siew-Ging Gong, Céline M. Lévesque Laurie E. Comstock, Editor DOI: 10.1128/JB.00762-19 ABSTRACT Bacteriocins are ribosomally synthesized proteinaceous antibacterial peptides. They selectively interfere with the growth of other bacteria.
