The European Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, combined with the transition toward a fossil-free society, calls for the efficient use of alternative energy resources. (1) An increase in the amount of renewable biomass feedstock required for the production of fuel, without current land use being affected, is necessary to cover the demand as fossil-based fuels are being replaced.
