While it doesn’t raise its ugly head quite so often these days, the concept of a retail apocalypse is still very much alive and well. It tends to come around when a retailer goes bankrupt or when a large chain prunes stores. Neither of these things is unusual – they’ve happened at every stage of retail history and are, in fact, a sign that the market is working properly. But the temptation to link them to a dramatic narrative is often too great.
