Abstract Data Science can revolutionize biomedical sciences, and ultimately, health. However, this relies on core elements, including computing infrastructure, data science skills, and well-curated contextually relevant data, which are limited in low- and middle-income countries. Many big data biomedical projects that have emerged over the last decade have been instrumental in development of datasets, computing infrastructure and skills; yet large disparities remain.

Abstract The African BioGenome Project (AfricaBP) is a pan-African initiative focusing on improving food systems and conservation through genomics and ensuring the sharing of data and benefits. The Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) aims to protect and restore biodiversity, including by ensuring its sustainable use and equitable sharing of benefits. AfricaBP’s objectives and activities align with the goals of the GBF.

Abstract Green leaf volatiles (GLVs) are six-carbon volatile organic compounds that mediate plant responses to environmental stresses. The quantity and composition of emitted GLVs can vary with stress type, allowing plants to fine-tune their volatile blends. In addition, insect herbivores are capable of modulating these emissions.
