Abraham Mashinsky

The New Jersey abstract painter Abraham Mashinsky, is one of the most relevant figures of abstract art in New Jersey.

Since an early age, Mashinsky became interested in the works of post-impressionist artists such as Gauguin. Mashinsky’s early artworks are classified as cubism. However, his interest in color contrasts and the dissolution of form through light would lead him to create artworks classified as Orphism. The series of Squares marked this path that would end up leading to abstraction.

At the mid-2000s, his painting returned to figuration. In 2005 he became a member of an art group which introduced him to the French Dada and Surrealist circles. Around 2008 he returned to lean towards abstraction and since then he has participated in exhibitions and events organized by groups of abstract art painters.

So far, Mashinsky has made large colored reliefs and abstract paintings in which the most dominant element are the brightly-colored geometric shapes.

Abraham Mashinsky holds a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Fine Arts and minor in History of Arts from the Rutgers University, from which he graduated with magna cum laude honors.
