Highlights•A supracellular myosin network links ventral cells in the folding Drosophila embryo•Many more connections are formed than are minimally needed to fold•Network redundancy protects tissue-scale connectivity under local damage•Anterior-posterior network stiffness directs a robustly oriented foldSummaryTissue morphogenesis is strikingly robust. Yet, how tissues are sculpted under challenging conditions is unknown.
Wood carbon concentrations play a central role in forest carbon accounting, and are fundamentally linked to the growth strategies of woody plants. Yet there are no comprehensive assessments of wood carbon among trees globally, and coarse approximations of wood carbon (for example, 50%) are employed in virtually all benchmark models and assessments of forest carbon.
The prevalence of obesity has reached 39.8% among Americans, affecting 93.3 million of US adults. The related consequences of the obesity epidemic are no secret either. Certain types of cancer, heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes are some of the leading causes of preventable death, and their incidence is rising. The root of the issue, however, is not that America has a weight loss problem. Rather, we have a weight loss maintenance problem.
