Wait. Don’t go so soon. While this may be my bleakest headline in almost 100 columns I’ve written for the Journal News Independent, please follow my logic for a moment. I love running. I’m not a potential candidate for the Boston Marathon, mind you, but running has provided a great outlet for me over the past five years or so. I started as a way to help my overall health, including my blood pressure (I can’t imagine why a pastor would have high blood pressure, can you?).

Our language has been affected by the Bible far more than many people realize. There’s a host of common phrases that have been used so often that many people don’t even realize they originated from the Bible. Have you ever been at your “wits end” trying to finish something at “the eleventh hour”? It’s just a reminder that you have “feet of clay.” You don’t have to see the “writing on the wall” to know that these phrases (and many more like them) are all biblical in origin.

EASTON - I’ve heard it said, “We know the cost of everything, and the value of nothing.” In our consumer-driven society, truer words are rarely spoken. After all, we’re keenly aware of the cost of goods, like a gallon of gasoline, a gallon of milk or a pound of ground beef. Issues like inflation and the supply chain are newsworthy items because they directly affect prices on the goods we buy.
