Crop insurance in India has evolved through several schemes implemented over time. The most recent schemes are Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance scheme (RWBCIS), launched in 2016. Since their implementation, PMFBY and RWBCIS have undergone several institutional and operational changes. Therefore, it becomes important to examine how participation pattern and loss ratios have changed over time to understand the current trajectory of the schemes.
