South Korea’s Heung-A books up to six chemical tankers in China

South Korea’s Heung-A Shipping has returned to the newbuilding market, ordering up to six stainless steel chemical tankers in China. The Korean owner has signed for three firm 26,000 dwt vessels plus options for three more in a deal valued at about $280m. The vessels will be built at Wuchang Shipbuilding, marking the company’s first newbuilding order since 2016.

Greek owner Pleiades returns to China for MR tanker order

Greek tanker owner Pleiades Shipping has ordered two MR tankers at China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI). The Kifisia-based company has signed up for a pair of 50,000 dwt vessels, with deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of 2028. Financial details have not been disclosed, although brokers currently place MR tanker newbuilding prices at between $48m and $52m. The latest deal comes amid continued ordering in the MR sector.

BGN doubles down on LPG shipping with pair of HD Hyundai VLGCs

Energy trader BGN has returned to South Korea for another round of VLGC ordering, signing a contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for two dual-fuel gas carriers that will take its owned LPG fleet to 19 vessels. The latest order covers two 93,000 cu m very large gas carriers, with delivery scheduled in 2029.
