How Early Does Memory Loss Begin for People at Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease?
A team of researchers studied individuals with a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease in an effort to understand when memory loss begins. Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disorder which features the degeneration of nerve cells over time and the eventual onset of dementia. Memory is one of the capacities most often affected early on in the development of the disease. A part of the brain called the medial temporal lobe plays an important part in memory and is one of the affected areas.
mTOR complex 1 controls the nuclear localization and function of glycogen synthase kinase 3β
Glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) phosphorylates and thereby regulates a wide range of protein substrates involved in diverse cellular functions. Some GSK3β substrates, such as c-Myc and Snail, are nuclear transcription factors, suggesting the possibility that GSK3β function is controlled through its nuclear localization.

Is semaglutide an effective treatment for type 2 diabetes?
Researchers recently performed a clinical trial comparing the safety and effectiveness of semaglutide and dulaglutide for treating type 2 diabetes. Why has the incidence of this disease increased dramatically in past 30 years? The answer is rooted in the fact that type 2 diabetes is partly caused by dietary and lifestyle practices that disrupt the body’s metabolic equilibrium. Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease affecting approximately 392 million people worldwide.
Osteoporotic Fracture and Bisphosphonates: What are the Long-Term Risks?
Researchers use data from large-scale postmenopausal studies to determine whether long-term bisphosphonate use is a good solution for preventing osteoporotic fractures. Osteoporosis is frequently associated with an increased risk of fracture due to a reduction in bone mineral density. About half of women over 50 years old are expected to experience an osteoporotic fracture.
Consumption of Citrus Linked with Lower Incidence of Dementia
A cohort study in Japan investigated the relationship between eating citrus fruits and developing dementia later in life. The authors controlled for a number of confounding factors, and found that the consumption of citrus is linked with lower incidence of dementia. Neurodegeneration leading to loss of cognitive function, generally referred to as dementia, is a problem that is increasingly affecting aging populations worldwide.
