CCC represents a liquid-liquid chromatography technique with promising applications in large-scale separation [1,2]. Given the merits including non-dead adsorption and recyclability, CCC is applicable for extracting active substances from natural products and has been a widely-used separation tool [3,4]. Driven by these application requirements, researchers have been attempting to enhance the separation efficiency of CCC columns by improving instrument parameters and solvent systems [5,6].
Liquid-liquid chromatography techniques [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], commonly known as countercurrent chromatography (CCC) [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13] and / or centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC) [14], [15], [16], [17], are based on centrifugal devices and primarily used for the analytical and preparative separations of natural products and pharmaceutical substances. [17], [18], [19], [20], [21], [22], [23], [24].
Liquid-liquid chromatography (LLC) is a preparative separation technique in which both the mobile and stationary phases are liquid and originate from a pre-equilibrated biphasic liquid system consisting of two or more solvents. LLC has two main column designs, centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC) [1] and countercurrent chromatography (CCC) [2].
