Gators Lauren Haeger named Honda Sports Award winner in softball
Florida senior pitcher Lauren Haeger has been named the 2015 softball recipient of the Honda Sports Award, designating her as the nation's best female athlete in the sport. The award is based on the the results of national balloting among all NCAA member schools as part of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards program, now in its 39th year. “It was such an honor to hear that I was nominated for the Honda Award, so it was wonderful to find out I was chosen as the winner,” Haeger said.
Private donor boosts Gators football practice facility
GAINESVILLE — A private donor will provide the additional $2 million necessary to complete Florida's new indoor football practice facility, and the Gators have begun looking into renovations for more of their athletic facilities including football and softball, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley told the University Athletic Association Board of Directors Tuesday. Those items were revealed as Florida finalized its 2015-16 budget.

GAINESVILLE — It has been 13 years since the USF baseball team played in an NCAA baseball regional, and it was clear early on Friday afternoon the Bulls didn't arrive just happy to be among the field of four at the Gainesville Regional. They came to play. Led by two triples from shortstop Kyle Teaf, USF earned a 5-3 win over Florida Atlantic in the opening game of the NCAA Gainesville Region. Gators get Georgia back as permanent opponent in basketball
Playing Georgia in basketball twice annually is back as a normal part of the Gators' schedule. The SEC announced today a new scheduling model for men’s basketball that will include three permanent opponents, beginning in 2015-16. The Florida softball team is about to partitipcate in its seventh Women's College World Series in the past eight years, and that unprecedented success has led to a need for upgraded facliities. Gators AD Jeremy Foley said Wednesday that upgrades for the softball facility are part of $100 million worth of projects under consideration at UF. Former Gator and Tampa Plant alum Preston Tucker has been called up to the majors for the Houston Astros. Tucker was called up from Class AAA Fresno to replace George Springer and will meet the team in Anaheim where the Astros are scheduled to start a four-game series with the Angels tonight. Springer was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Wednesday after he crashed, face-first, into the right field wall Tuesday at Minute Maid Park.

Billy Donovan is leaving Florida for the NBA. Donovan 49, is leaving to become the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder, walking away after 19 seasons and two national titles at Florida. He joined the Gators’ staff in 1996 after spending two years at Marshall University – his first head coaching job. Although a contract has not been signed, Donovan and the Thunder have agreed to a deal, the Times has learned. The Gainesville Sun and SI.com have also reported the news.
