Alex Garcia’s Biography

Alex Garcia is a photojournalist whose 25-year career has included positions at the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, the Long Beach Press-Telegram and the Palm Beach Post.

At the Chicago Tribune, he received a 1st Place award from the World Press Photo contest in Amsterdam, the world's most prestigious photojournalism contest. He also shares a Pulitzer Prize with the staff for coverage of gridlock at O'Hare Airport.

Among his book credits, Garcia was selected to participate in the largest photo project in publishing history, "America 24/7”. He was also selected for the book projects "A Day in the Life of the U.S. Armed Forces", "America At Home” and “The Human Face of Big Data”.

Garcia teaches editorial photography with the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He has been an adjunct lecturer at the Medill School of Northwestern University and a frequent speaker to audiences about the power of visual storytelling, such as at the innovation-themed event, “Chicago Ideas Week”, TEDx Midwest and the Printers Row Literary Festival.

Garcia wrote and edited a weekly column published at the Chicago Tribune about topics relating to photography and photojournalism. It was one of the few individual photo blogs on the website of a major news organization and became a book titled, "Depth of Field: Tips on Photojournalism and Creativity".
