What was your first job as a journalist?

When I started as a Resource Writer for Collider.com.

Maybe once or twice in my life.

How is social media changing news?

The good news is anyone can share information, the bad news is that anyone can share information.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Gale Weathers from the 'Scream' films. Her evolution from a selfish journalist into an empathetic reporter is one of horror's best arcs.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist means being in tune with what's happening in the world around you and using that to paint a picture of what the world is.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Typically by email.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Primarily EmakiCMS, Slack, and Asana.

What's your favorite social network?

None, but I use Instagram to look at memes from time to time.

Who do you wish followed you?

Nicolas Cage. He has an apparent passion for his craft that is rarely seen in any industry.

Why did you become a journalist?

In addition to loving film and TV, I love talking about film and TV, and my job gives me the perfect outlet to do that.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I worked for my high school's broadcast news, where I published comedic movie reviews every week.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I wrote a piece on how Phase 4 of the MCU tackles grief, and how it helped me with some grief of my own.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Absolutely build connections with your co-workers and fellow journalists, as this industry is all about how well you work with others.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Typically in the morning from 9-12, but usually available to respond all day.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

So far, the my favorite pitch was one of my earliest, when I was asked to interview Jo Marie Payton. Best first interview I could have had.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I've honestly yet to get a pitch that came across as "bad".

What's your favorite drink?

Arnold Palmer. Iced tea and lemonade is the best combination since Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

At the movie theater.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Deadline is my go-to for the Trades.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That I do movie reviews because I'm a film journalist (I have done reviews in the past but I mainly do evergreen, feature, and news content).
