1 Introduction Parental resource allocation to their children has significant implications for both within- and between-family inequality. When parents favor their higher-ability children by providing them with more resources, it exacerbates inequality within the family and widens disparities. Conversely, compensating for within-family inequality by directing resources toward lower-ability children, may help reduce disparities.
