Aisha Abdool Karim’s Biography

Aisha Abdool Karim is a freelance journalist with a special interest in public health, infectious diseases, and science.

She has been extensively covering the COVID-19 pandemic, telling compelling stories and weaving in complex science. She loves doing deep dives and breaking down technical medical information into accessible language.

Prior to going freelance, Aisha was a senior health reporter at the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism. She also made frequent appearances on Newzroom Afrika along with other local TV and radio stations to provide updates on the latest COVID-19 science.

While she's passionate about long-form storytelling, Aisha also gained experience in breaking news reporting while working as a general reporter for Daily Maverick. She enjoys incorporating multimedia elements to her work, including infographics, photographs and short videos.
