A non-birthday dinner, special coats, and banned words

Hi! It’s Aja. Yesterday was Aliza’s birthday, and we had a “non-birthday” dinner at our friend Lacey’s house. Which meant: Lacey made Alison Roman’s roasted salmon and laid out party hats, Anna brought her signature farro salad, I brought wine, and Julia showed up with two bouquets of flowers (one for the host and one for Aliza!) Oh, and Aliza brought a delicious chocolate cake her in-laws had made… which Jude and a friend had managed to get into (pictures below).

Happy Monday! Aliza here. I’m unbelievably grateful to share our surrogate is helping us give Jude a sibling this December (!!) On Saturday, we had a “baby downpour” — a term my friend Suz coined when your first shower gets cancelled because of Covid and then you face an extraordinarily difficult journey to your second baby. Aja and Suz got cowgirl-themed decorations and face painting and cake and sandwiches from one of my favorite local restaurants. Sam and I feel so lucky and celebrated.
