Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers ★★★ Liked An incredible artifact of the Peak Streaming and COVID Era (2019-2021) when you could pitch something like 'The Lonely Island and John Mulaney make a self-referential Chip 'n Dale movie for Disney+' and get it greenlit. I'm much more of a Lonely Island fan than a Chip 'n Dale fan so I wonder if the show's die-hards were pissed.

The Naked Gun ★★★ Liked I’m happy to see it has its gun in its right place. No hip irony here (the MacGuffin is named “P.L.O.T. [Primordial Law of Toughness] Device”), it tries to replicate the simple Mad Magazine-silliness of the Leslie Nielsen trilogy, though it’s still not as, err, “howlarious”. There’s nothing to match the opening sequence of “The Naked Gun 2 ½”: The Smell of Fear”, which still made me weep with laughter on a recent rewatch.

I’ll steal a quote that summarizes most of my thoughts on the new Naked Gun: “A bunch of smart people made a dumb movie.” It’s lightning quick, very high JPM (jokes per minute) count that’s right in line with the original franchise. Also like the original, it’s extremely creative and outside-the-box with its joke making that seems so hard given how much ground Zucker, Abrahms and Zucker have already covered in their previous films.
