Interview

How is social media changing news?

It's making people impatient. I don't consider news actually broken until it hits Twitter, because that's where people watch for news now.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Gus Haynes on The Wire. He stuck to his guns and ideals and battled against the idiot Scott Templeton as Scott clearly fabricated stories.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Of course. I was our lead sports writer, sports editor and sports photographer.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be confident. Never say no to an assignment and never believe that a story is too big/complex/serious for you to tell.

What's your favorite drink?

Tequila and tonic. Refreshing and simple, yet distinctive and attention-grabbing. Promise it's not as gross as it sounds.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That we "get great seats at games." We really don't get to sit back and enjoy the games, as we're constantly writing/working throughout.
