Discussion Our study assessed ED avoidance of frequent ED users during the COVID-19 pandemic and factors associated with ED avoidance. In patients with historically high ED utilisation behaviour, ED avoidance during COVID-19 was common, especially among female respondents, those with lung disease, those with university education and those who reported fear of contracting COVID-19 in the ED.
