Carlos Santana is instantly recognizable as a guitarist—you can probably identify his distinctive tone and soaring melodicism in the first two seconds of one of his solos. His singing voice, however, is a bit less famous. The early hits of his band Santana were often sung by keyboardist Gregg Rolie, with the guitarist as one of several members joining in on backing vocals.

John Hughes, the poet laureate of ’80s teen angst, was born in 1950 in Michigan. In 1963, his family moved to Northbrook, Illinois, where he attended Glenbrook North High School on Shermer Road. Twenty years later, Hughes would shoot some of his films at his alma mater, which would serve as the fictitious Shermer High School in the hits The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
