Characteristics of children requiring admission to neonatal care and paediatric intensive care before the age of 2 years in England and Wales: a data linkage study
Discussion Our study has quantified the characteristics and workload of children admitted to both NNU and PICU in the first 2 years of life. Within the general population, only 1% of children aged <1 year are admitted to PICU, but of those admitted to NNU, 4.8% were also admitted to PICU before 2 years. While only a small percentage of babies admitted to NNU required admission to PICU, these children represent approximately half of the children admitted to PICU aged under 2 years.

Re: Learning from maternity service failures at East Kent Hospitals
Dear Editor The failings in maternity services in East Kent are neither unique to that organisation (1-3) nor, we suspect, to services in other specialities across the UK. The recent plethora of external reviews appear to have had limited impact outside the individual Trusts and Health Boards involved, and indeed Kirkup has suggested that a different approach is needed to address these issues (4).
Re: Ockenden: another shocking review of maternity services
Dear Editor It is essential that the questions raised by families affected by failings in maternity care at Nottingham hospitals are addressed. However, it is equally important that families who are currently accessing maternity services can be reassured that steps are being taken now to ensure that the current service is safe and effective, pending what may be found by Ockenden’s review.
Midland Reporter and Westmeath Nationalist
The Midland Reporter and Westmeath Nationalist was a newspaper which circulated in Westmeath, in the Irish Midlands, from the 1890s to the late 1930s. Owned by Roscommon newspaper publisher Jasper Tully, during the Irish revolutionary period it was, unlike its direct rival the Westmeath Examiner, the primary bullhorn for the advanced nationalist and Sinn Féin point of view.
