INDEPENDENT councillor Maria Donoghue wants the Council to recruit a daytime economy officer to help manage the local retail and cultural offering in Limerick City. While pointing to the obvious financial implications of such a move, Cllr Donoghue was of the opinion that there might be potential for reciprocating the nighttime economy officer for a daytime economy officer.

LIMERICK City and County Council is in good hands for the year ahead as Fine Gael’s Tom Ruddle, hailed by all his colleagues as “a gentleman to the core”, took up the role as Príomh Chomhairleoir for Limerick City and County Council.

IT was singer-songwriter Dennis Allen that penned the famous Treaty City anthem, Limerick, You’re A Lady, with its “Shannon waters tears of joy that flow”. However, at the Metropolitan District’s AGM, Council members composed their own additional verse to this much-loved classic in tribute to one of Limerick’s most loyal public servants for the past 50 years.
