Bayesian networks as prognostic models in oncology: a systematic review and recommendations for clinical practice
Bayesian networks (BNs) are increasingly recognised as powerful artificial intelligence (AI) tools for prognostication in oncology, offering key-advantages over traditional regression models. This review identifies and evaluates studies that develop and validate BNs as prognostic models in oncology. It highlights BN’s unique capacities, such as modelling causal relationships, handling missing data, adapting to new evidence and predicting multiple outcomes in one simultaneously.
Moving beyond mean heart dose: The importance of cardiac substructures in radiation therapy toxicity
Introduction Dose constraints exist in radiotherapy to protect normal tissue from the harmful effects of radiation.
Association between rheumatoid arthritis and risk of radiotherapy toxicity: a systematic review
The management of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cancer is varied and lacks guidance. A 2019 systematic review and meta-analysis of toxicity in patients with collagen vascular or inflammatory bowel disease (including those with RA) concluded that they were not contraindications for radiotherapy. A 2021 meta-analysis of case-control studies in patients with collagen vascular disease found those with RA had no increased acute toxicity, but a higher rate of late effects.
Radiotherapy-related lymphopenia affects overall survival in patients with lung cancer

Abstract Introduction Lymphopenia following radiotherapy has an adverse effect on patient’s outcome. However, the relationship between radiotherapy dose delivery and lymphopenia is not fully understood. This work is utilizing image-based data mining to identify anatomical regions where the received dose is correlated with severe lymphopenia.
Organ preservation in bladder cancer: an opportunity for truly personalized treatment
Abstract Radical treatment of many solid tumours has moved from surgery to multimodal organ preservation strategies combining systemic and local treatments. Trimodality bladder-preserving treatment (TMT) comprises maximal transurethral resection of the bladder tumour followed by radiotherapy and concurrent radiosensitizing treatment, thereby sparing the urinary bladder.
Is heterogeneity in stage 3 non-small cell lung cancer obscuring the potential benefits of dose-escalated concurrent chemo-radiotherapy in clinical trials? - Lung Cancer

Changes in magnetic resonance imaging radiomic features in response to androgen deprivation therapy in patients with high-risk PCa
To view the full text, please login as a subscribed user or purchase a subscription. Click here to view the full text on ScienceDirect. Background: Biochemical response to neoadjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (nADT) predicts recurrence-free and overall survival for prostate cancer (PCa). PSA decline during nADT may represent intrinsic androgen sensitivity with poor response indicating higher risk of progression.
Radiation dose to heart base linked with poorer survival in lung cancer patients
This article has generated a strong hypothesis, which we believe can now aid in directing future studies. In an unselected group of 1101 patients, we have identified the base of the heart as a dose-sensitive region, where excess dose results in poorer patient survival (HR 1.25, 95% CI 1.01–1.56, p = 0.04). For those patients where heart contours were available (386 patients), neither the mean dose, V5 or V30 showed significance in univariate or multivariate analysis.
