1 Introduction Animals adjust their behavior in response to environmental change that occurs on multiple timescales. Long-term environmental shifts, such as climate change, influence habitat use and the timing of reproduction (Beever et al. 2017; Miller-Rushing et al. 2008), while short-term environmental changes, such as the day/night cycle, affect foraging and activity levels (Ashby 1972; Beauchamp 2007).
