What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job in journalism was actually as a roving reporter and video editor at a cable TV station for a couple of years in the mid-1990s.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, in high school I actually took a typing class. It's not that interesting really, stick with a computer or phone.

How is social media changing news?

Social media brings news and change at a faster pace. It is an important and useful development that society simply needs to catch up to.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Helping make difficult topics easier to understand and providing a balanced look at different viewpoints.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

It's long, hard work but does get easier. At some point, the hardest part becomes easier and starts to flow. Stick with it.

What's your favorite drink?

Yerba Mate with a bit of fenugreek and stevia brewed in a French press.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

In the woods, in VR, or enjoying a delicious whole-food, plant-based meal with my wife.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I enjoy Anandtech's deep dives into the inner workings of computer chips.
