Starting from November 2024, Indonesia’s financial services industry will be subject to several important consumer protection obligations under Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan or "OJK") Regulation No. 22 of 2023 on Consumer and Public Protection in the Financial Services Sector ("POJK 22/2023"). While POJK 22/2023 has been in effect since 20 December 2023, it is important for financial service providers to be aware of the key obligations coming into force in November 2024.

As discussed in our previous update on this topic (click here to read), Indonesia's mandatory halal regime for various goods and services is being implemented in stages, beginning today, 17 October 2024. This is in accordance with Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, as amended by Law No. 6 of 2023, and Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021 on the Implementation of the Halal Product Assurance. The first stage of this implementation focuses on the food and beverage ("F&B") sector.
