In this new short, Laura Huertas Millán (retrospective, RIDM 2019) films the ritual production of coca powder in the Amazonian community of Muina-Muruí. Called mambe in Spanish and jiíbie in Uitoto, the green powder is the foundation of the group’s social ties and has a sacred role in the community. More person than product, it holds the key to spiritual awakening and facilitates political discussions.
