What was your first job as a journalist?
A news reporter for the local paper. I was 18 and remember covering the town's American Idol contest for a $15 assignment.

Social media isn't changing news--it is the news.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Asking the right questions, but being a real human while you do it, to ensure your source is comfortable enough to give answers that matter.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Otter, Trello, Monday, Google Drive, Loom, Clearscope, others.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. I was the features section editor. I remember writing an ode to my grandpa who picked me up from school on Tuesdays too.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Follow the stories that interest you, don't sacrifice your ethics, write some fun stories and some meaningful stories, work with nice editors

Chasing my five little kids around.

I get a morning newsletter from Business Insider that's so well done, voice-y, and a great overview of the happenings of the day.

That I have one--I have more like 10!
