Premiere: Don Glori - After Hours
By now there shouldn’t be any confusion left over Melbourne’s place as a global hot bed within the soulful-electronic underground. In the live-sphere, a constant outpouring of compelling new talent has made it now almost impossible for music fans to keep on top of. Only two years ago Gilles Peterson presented Sunny Side Up, a compilation primer set out to showcase a generation of jazz-tipped talent that had been bubbling within.
Premiere: Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange
Ziggy Zeitgeist has become a leading light in a movement forging jazz and dance influences via his Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange project. Z*F*E*X brilliantly synthesizes club culture in human form. A live band experience humanising the role of the DJ within a nightclub, he successfully mixes a rich palette of house, broken-beat and jazz-funk.
Premiere: Mara TK - Highly Medicated
The name Mara TKholds a rarified weight of reverence amongst many discerning music fans. Hailing from Aotearoa (New Zealand), his group Electric Wire Hustle gained cult-like status with a string of releases that shifted neo-soul’s potential. With an ethos that paralleled the likes of groups Sa-Ra Project and Spacek, yet with a sound uniquely that of their own, they defined an era for those searching for something more forward-thinking in the purview of underground soul, beats and electronica.
Premiere: Tuzeint - Time Will Meet Everything
Mexico City’s Tuzeint delivers another stirring cut of melodic pleasure off his debutEP, 23. ‘Time Will Meet Everything’is equally a flex of musical breadth as much as it is maturity in restraint, an impressive statement from the bubbling singer and multi-instrumentalist. With help from producer Wet Baes, it is one of six songs representing a personal body of work built on Tuzeint’s life experiences from the ages of 23 to 28.
Premiere: Webmoms feat. Sukie - Rice & Potatoes
Webmoms aka Karum Kooper got our attention in late 2020 with his debut EP Ruchikar. His layered and original style, that touches on influences like lo-fi hip hop and neo-soul, has seen the multi-instrumentalist create a compelling sound that’s completely his own. Now, with the help of another emerging artist Sukie’s sugary vocals, Webmoms returns with this seductively slow slice of melancholia, ‘Rice & Potatoes’, the first single from his sophomore EP Lake Tape.

A delicate, soulful collaboration between the multi-instrumentalist and singer.
Premiere: Surprise Chef - Daylight Savings
Melbourne’s flourishing musical output certainly has been well documented in recent years. While a distinct brand of neo-soul and jazz-fusion defined by groups such as Hiatus Kaiyote, 30/70 and Mildlife has become synonymous with this surging hotbed, another sound with its own milieu is proving just as compelling. Surprise Chef demonstrate there’s many strings to this city’s bow.
Georgia's Track (SO.Crates Remix) -
Tiana Khasi made a splash in 2019 when she dropped her debut Meghalaya EP. Turning heads with her syrupy voice, piercing lyricism and poetic aptitude, the Melbourne-based vocalist has joined the ranks of what feels like a substantiated resurgence of compelling female soul voices, drawn from the blueprint of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. A year on and Tiana has returned to her creative conception, this time inviting close collaborators and those she admires to reinterpret her vision.
