WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, Signal, and other instant messaging platforms have become an integral part of most personal and business-related communication. Whether discussing a business transaction, a family dispute, a property matter or a contractual disagreement, important conversations increasingly take place via instant messaging rather than more traditional methods such as emails.

EasyJet airline faced scrutiny after advertising that customers could add a carry-on bag “from £5.99”, despite being unable to produce evidence that such a price was genuinely available across a significant proportion of routes and dates. It is a useful reminder that seemingly attractive headline offers can be undermined by onerous terms and conditions, particularly where availability, qualifying criteria, or hidden restrictions make the promise hard to access in practice.

The High Court’s recent judgment in Getty Images v Stability AI [2025] EWHC 2863 (Ch) marks one of the first major UK decisions to consider how copyright and trade mark law apply to artificial intelligence models trained on copyrighted content. The ruling provides helpful, but cautious, clarity for technology companies developing or deploying AI systems.
