Special Issue Published as part of Energy and Fuels virtual special issue “PyroLiq 2023”. Aromatic compounds are present all over the world, and many products are based on them, mostly petrochemical intermediates. Various commodities, like plastics, but also special chemicals and pharmaceutical products, have one or more aromatic rings incorporated in their chemical structure. Common synthetic routes start with one of the three so-called BTX substances, namely, benzene, toluene, or xylene.
