Her work investigates how individuals and families create meaning after experiencing the traumatic effects of war, with a special emphasis on intergenerational transmission of trauma, resilience, and pathways of posttraumatic growth. Alexandra Rush, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Human Development at Empire State University. Her work examines how people and families construct meaningful lives in the aftermath of war. She focuses on intergenerational transmission of trauma, resilience, and processes that contribute to posttraumatic growth, while also examining youth purpose, identity development, and the cultivation of meaning in challenging contexts.

Navigating the Tides of Change: Girls’ Experiences in Scouts BSA

On February 1, 2019, Boy Scouts of America officially accepted girls into its signature program (ages 11–18) and changed its name to Scouts BSA. This historic shift provided a novel opportunity for researchers to investigate the experiences of some of the first 13 girls to enter this traditionally all-boy space and examine how participation influenced sense of self and purpose.
