Alice Bucknell’s Biography

I'm an artist, editor, and freelance writer based in London. I report on art, architecture, and the Internet, among other things. I contribute to a range of international digital and print magazines including the Architectural Review, Artsy, Artnet News, Frieze, Metropolis, Elephant, and Wallpaper*, among others.

I explore the intersection and points of friction between everyday digital culture and formal institutional culture; as well as taking an anthropological approach to so-called political, activist, and performance art in order to better understand the direction that contemporary art is moving.

I'm also interested in how urban design and living in cities shapes all of this, and the potential for collective action within the built environment; how public art can promote new forms of resistance both in and outside of art world structures.

I have exhibited my visual work internationally in London, Berlin, Chicago, and Detroit, and presented my research in conferences in New York and Lisbon.
