Last month, Tone Hansen left Oslo for Stockholm. She leaves behind MUNCH, a museum dedicated to the life and work of painter Edvard Munch in Norway’s capital, which she led through a four-year period of transformation. Earlier this week, Hansen took over as director of Moderna Museet, where she will oversee a mandate to expand through its merger with the Swedish public art agency, Statens konstråd, and ArkDes (Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design).

His work takes this as a starting point, reflecting on his country’s subsequent trials through oppressive regimes, unbridled capitalism and the global homogeneity of the internet. Hence, ‘Sorrow’.

For French artist Paul Cox, the humble day is ‘the essential, important unit in one's life.’  His ‘Diary’ series ofgouache paintings is testimony to this, built from years of near-daily practice and regular observation. ‘What drove us to the work of Paul Cox is simplicity to which the artist approaches the everyday,’ says Valentina Buzzi, curator of the presentation, entitled ‘The MonumentalEveryday’.

프리즈는 매년 국내외 큐레이터들로 구성된 심사위원단을 초청해 페어에서 도전적이고 특출난 기획을 보여주는 스탠드에게 프리즈 스탠드상(Frieze Stand Prize)을 수여한다. 이번 프리즈 서울 2026에는 이수진(홍익대학교 부교수), 루벤 키한(Reuben Keehan, 마닐라 콘템포(Kontempo) 현대미술센터 디렉터), 해리 최(Harry Choi, 샌프란시스코 현대미술관(SFMOMA) 차석 큐레이터)로 구성된 심사위원단이 도쿄 기반의 갤러리 Taro Nasu를 수상 갤러리로 선정했다. Taro Nasu는 마르셀 브로타에스(Marcel Broodthaers), 에노모토 코이치(Koichi Enomoto), 사이먼 후지와라(Simon Fujiwara), 라이언 갠더(Ryan Gander), 이케다 료지(Ryoji Ikeda), 미카 타지마(Mika Tajima)와 와타나베 사토시(Satoshi Watanabe)의 작업으로 구성된 프레젠테이션을 기획했다.

A hushed atmosphere settles in the San Gregorio abbey’s first room, lined with cool brick and light filtered through Gothic windows. Displayed inside is a copy of Gerardus Mercator’s 1551 celestial globe – its surface a dense web of constellations and Latin script – which renders the distant sky as a navigable model. To read the globe is to imagine the world from beyond: finding one’s bearings requires a projection outside oneself.

올해 2026 포커스 스탠드상(Focus Stand Prize)은 차승언의 솔로 프레젠테이션을 선보인 파이프갤러리에게 돌아갔다. 포커스 스탠드상은 설립 12년 이하의 갤러리를 조명하는 ‘포커스(Focus)’ 섹션에서 뛰어난 기획력을 선보이는 스탠드에게 수여된다. 2026년 심사위원단은 박재용(서울리딩룸 설립자), 제시카 S. 홍(켐퍼현대미술관 수석 큐레이터), 안민혜(독립 큐레이터)로 구성됐다. 심사위원단은 올해 수상에 대해 다음과 같이 평했다. “파이프갤러리에서 선보이는 차승언의 ‘전우주적’이고도 정교한 프레젠테이션은 포커스 스탠드상의 취지를 잘 보여줍니다. 패브릭을 매체로 한 다양한 작품을 보아왔지만, 스탠드 공간 전체를 활용한 차승언의 설치는 패브릭이라는 매체를 새로운 차원으로 확장합니다.
