1 Introduction Understanding of hierarchical wildlife–habitat relationships emerges from multi-scale research. Ignoring scale dependencies can lead to misleading ecological conclusions and misplaced conservation management (Johnson 1980; Wiens 1989; Levin 1992; Godvik et al. 2009; Mayor et al. 2009). Ecological scale refers to spatial and/or temporal dimensions described and analyzed in a study.
