What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I keep it pretty simple. I type everything out on Google docs, we upload to a Wordpress site and our newsletter is through Mailchimp.
Why did you become a journalist?
I heard once that you find your bliss when your skills, passions and the needs of the world collide. That's journalism for me.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, we didn't have one. But I'd love to see them start one!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Do it because you love it. Do it because you want to tell a story from the overlooked perspectives. Do it for the greater good.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I'll always take a pitch, but I typically plan my days/weeks out in the mornings, so try to have something in my mailbox by 9 a.m.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I spend a lot of time hanging out at home with my cat or causing a ruckus with my friends in Grand Rapids.
