The other day a good friend was over to play with my baby. As we sat on the living room floor, watching my son flail his little eight-month body about, I asked, “Do you have any idea how to get him to crawl?” My friend gave me the sort of look normally reserved for more absurd questions like how can you prove they didn’t fake the moon landing or can you taste this yogurt I think it’s gone bad. In his defense, my friend doesn’t have any kids.

For reasons I still don’t totally understand, Doc, as we affectionately called him, had called a meeting so my two (mostly former) best friends could tell me all the reasons I sucked.
