A heartfelt goodbye from the editor of the Perry Chief and the Dallas County News

After writing thousands of words over the years, I was at a loss when I sat down to write for the final time. The Thursday, Sept. 11 issue of the Dallas County News and the Perry Chief are my last as editor. While it felt like the right time to move on from my position, it wasn’t an easy decision. I’ve enjoyed covering the communities of Dallas County over the past seven years. I started as the Perry Chief news reporter in March 2018. One of my first assignments was covering a Perry Chamber event.

Adel Chamber, Dallas County Conservation fundraising for Raccoon River Valley Trail bridge Original

A key bridge along the Raccoon River Valley Trail remains closed in Adel, preventing riders from completing the nearly 120-mile paved loop. The 9-mile extension linking the High Trestle and Raccoon River Valley trails was celebrated with a bike ride and ribbon cutting in August 2024. Less than a year later, a fire severely damaged and closed a bridge near Adel.
