1 INTRODUCTION Shift workers represent approximately 20%–29% of workers worldwide (IARC Monograph Working Group, 2019; Williams, 2008; Winkler et al., 2018). Shift work involves working outside the conventional hours of 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours, while night shift work involves working at least 3 hours between 23:00 hours and 06:00 hours (Winkler et al., 2018).
