Interview
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, as a Legal Assistant, I used one a few times.
How is social media changing news?
It brings news to us much more quickly, which can be helpful -- but, social media is also filled with a great deal of misinformation.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I prefer concise, well-organized pitches with a clear angle and relevance to my interests. Include key details like the topic, why it matters, and any deadlines. Feel free to highlight unique perspectives or underrepresented voices—those are the stories that resonate most with me.
What's your favorite social network?
LinkedIn is a great way to stay connected with current and past employers, as well as companies of interest.
Who do you wish followed you?
Fellow vegans Lewis Hamilton, Ricky Gervais, and Natalie Portman, to name a few.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, but I was on the yearbook committee my senior year.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Stay curious, ask tough questions, and always dig deeper. Build genuine relationships, listen closely, and tell stories from your sources' perspectives. Chase stories you're passionate about—that's what will make your work stand out. Be adaptable, and always stay open to feedback.
What's your favorite drink?
Alcohol-wise, I like a good margarita on the rocks. Non-alcohol-wise, I enjoy Coke Zero.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Around animals, watching a movie/TV show, playing the flute/piccolo, or performing onstage.
