We searched PubMed using search terms [(Lyme) OR (Borrelia)] AND [(North Carolina) OR (Virginia)] for any articles in any language published from database inception to January 8, 2024. The goal of the search was to identify relevant studies investigating the geographic expansion of Lyme disease into the southeastern United States. Our search identified 98 studies of which 45 were reviewed by title and abstract and determined to be relevant to the primary research question (Appendix, Table S1).
