Fuel-price brake is due to start from noon Austria’s new fuel-price brake is meant to start taking effect from 12 pm on Thursday, according to Kurier. The measure combines a 5-cent cut in mineral oil tax with a second 5-cent reduction linked to limits on margins in the fuel chain. On Wednesday, the gross price of petrol stood at €1.84 per litre and diesel at €2.11. Since the start of March, diesel had risen by about 70 cents per litre and petrol by about 40 cents.

Vienna Vienna’s Easter markets Vienna’s Easter markets are best thought of as three different spring outings rather than one single event. Schönbrunn Palace is the most family-oriented, with a straw maze, boules lanes, a carousel, a Ferris wheel, a children’s train and a traditional craft workshop. Freyung is the most traditional, built around old-style Easter customs and its giant tower of painted eggs, while Am Hof works well as a casual city-centre stop if you are already in the first district.
