1 Introduction Missed nursing care (MNC) has been recognised by many international scientists as an extremely challenging healthcare phenomenon linked to unsafe patient outcomes (Jones et al. 2021). In 2015, the global prevalence of MNC ranged from 55% to 98% (Jones et al. 2015). With the progression of MNC, patients worldwide gradually face increased risk of falls, pressure injury and hospital-acquired infections (Mandal et al. 2020).

1 Introduction Inappropriate practice of non-sterile glove use inhibits correct hand hygiene (Loveday et al. 2014), increases healthcare-associated infections and incurs unnecessary financial costs (Wilson et al. 2015). The inappropriate use of non-sterile gloves, including continued wearing when removal is required, is prevalent in nursing practice (Lindberg et al. 2020).

1 Introduction An interpretive descriptive qualitative study design is a methodological approach to conducting research that focuses on understanding people's experiences and how they make sense of them. Previously published studies have used interpretive descriptive qualitative design to understand the experiences of patients, nurses and health phenomena (Bulndi et al. 2023; Gurné et al. 2021; Timmins et al. 2023).
