Newcastle Restaurant Week is here, and Jesmond is ready in Food Jesmond’s hospitality sector is hoping for a mid-winter boost as Newcastle Restaurant Week returns this month. From today (12 January) until Sunday (18 January), several local eateries will join venues across the city in offering set-price menus designed to encourage footfall during the industry’s quietest period. The bi-annual event, which also runs every August, aims to make dining out more accessible amid rising costs.

Restaurant inspired by Calcutta cabin cafés to open on Osborne Road in Food Bengal bistro restaurant Tantara is set to open its doors in early 2026, launched by Shah Lalon Amin and his two brothers. The restaurant is a tribute to their late father who, they say, dreamed of opening a restaurant along Osborne Road. Tantara will be just north of Acorn Road, next to the Cairn Hotel, on the site formerly occupied by South Indian restaurant 3 Elephants.

Hamilton, N.Y. – Central Michigan Field Hockey took on the Colgate Raiders Friday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Chippewas came out on top 2-1, marking their third consecutive victory. The Chippewas have not won three consecutive games since 2014, when the program took down Ball State, Longwood, and Miami (OH) over the course of seven days. Sophomore keeper Jenna Billig started the day in goal for the Chippewas.
