Exhibitions celebrating the 90th anniversary of The Broons and Oor Wullie are taking place this weekend. The National Library of Scotland has teamed up with DC Thomson to bring “braw times” to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee. There will be pop-up displays showcasing rare items from the national collections, as well as special costumed guests, giveaways and fun activities suitable for all ages. The strip cartoon icons have been a household name for generations.

A woman whose estranged husband tried to murder her after suffering from years of abuse and coercive control says it is now time for her to heal after he was jailed for at least 12 years. David MacDonald was convicted of rape and attempted murder last month following years of physical abuse and coercive control directed at his estranged wife, Danielle. The 42-year-old was handed a 16-year extended sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

A couple whose baby died an hour after birth are backing calls for specialist bereavement support to become a standard part of care for families across Scotland. Clare and William Stevenson’s eldest son, Campbell, died on November 3, 2024, shortly after being born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), a serious birth defect in which the diaphragm does not develop properly.
